April 1st Hong Kong and Relax before the flight to UK

Having slept really well my alarm went off at 05.30, I was going to meet my “brother” Fred Wu (He had flown in from Taipei especially to see me last evening) and we would walk before breakfast. Unfortunately, I turned off the alarm and snoozed for another 90 minutes! We said we would have breakfast at 07.45, and on arriving in the restaurant Fred told me that he too had not walked, so I felt a little better :-) Breakfast was full of conversation, catching up on the last 9 months, we had arranged to meet Frieda at 09.45 to do some shopping before the planned lunch at The Peninsular Hotel Hong Kong a very grand hotel, very Colonial, and very much a part of Hong Kong before The Handover to China on 1st July 1977. It still retains its place as the premier hotel in Hong Kong. It was good to meet Hector and Hiver’s grandparents, Peggy and Louis Mak, along with friends for lunch. Continuing on  with Fred before he left after lunch travelling to China. There was so much we had to catch up on carrying on from breakfast, since we originally met in London. (we will all be meeting up in Taiwan, his home in July this year, for a week with family and friends) Leaving the hotel we said goodbye to Fred who was heading to the train station, and we headed off to The Star Ferry which links Tsim Sha Tsui with Central, if you ever get to Hong Kong you should ride the ferry to see the amazing sights and scenery from both sides. It was a warm afternoon and having spent an hour on the harbour side we headed back across to meet Hiver and shop.

This was the end of our trip to do our Christian work with KIM,  Kids International Ministries, saying goodbye is always tuff especially having shared such an emotional week with everyone in Manila. And now to bid farewell to Roger, Frieda, Hiver and Hector, before I headed out and took the MTR to the airport. I will be returning to Hong Kong at the end of June for 3 days before the family and I head out to Taiwan for a big reunion.

Being kind to the poor is like lending to the Lord; He will reward you for what you have done – Proverbs 19:17Â

This is so relevant to the week we spent in Manila looking after the children, the orphans, adults and babies. Although I didn’t see it as being “kind” more something that we (all) need to think about, and if we are able, to help, in any way we can. I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Manila and to work with KIM, and it was as rewarding to me as it bought smiles, food, help and happiness to everyone that we were able to visit.

For God, who said, “Let there be light in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ — 2 Corinthians 4:6
