Lets all Communicate

Not too many years ago the way we used to communicate at work and globally was by Telephone, Telex or Letter, some of you will remember that I am sure…. and of course what about having to make a call not from your bedroom or from the home, but to have to walk to the nearest Phone Box,. Some were very lucky to have a phone in the home at that time. (what we now call a Landline)

Then came the mobile phone, wow what an exciting time that was. I remember having a handset fitted in my car back in the late 70’s , a Nolia 6310 and I know this was the “Go To” car phone of the time…….and because of my job I had one of the first “Hand Held Mobile Phones” it was affectionately called “The Brick”

Now, right up to date we have the Android and iOS phones, with Samsung and iPhone probably the most popular, The iPhone 1, you may remember, but you will all be aware of the iPhone 11 ….. Of course we all have mobile phones now, even the children, but, these “phones” are so much more, they are a “Portable Communication computer” and hard to imagine and comprehend that the processors inside this small handheld devices, are more powerful than the computers that helped to send man into space!

During these unprecedented times communication has become so important. Keeping in touch with loved ones, families, friends here and across the globe. We are no longer just an insulated nation we communicate with companies, suppliers and very importantly for the younger generation (but not all)  “gamers” all over the world. The Ten icons above are probably the best known that we use – Whatsapp; Snapchat; WeChat; Instagram; facebook; Messenger; email and Skype, and the Telephone.  There are others of course, the list is not exhaustive.

It’s important, as we are all now in isolation, to keep in contact with Loved Ones, Family and your neighbours, be they elderly or not. Most of us have a mobile, and/or the internet so making sure everyone is contactable, allows us all to make sure everyone has enough food and is safe and well. Ensuring medication is available to those in need. It is imperative that we look after ourselves so we CAN look after our neighbours. We cant have physical contact so the phone and messaging capabilities, available to everyone, can be used to keep in contact.

They all have video capability too, so being able to see as well as talk is such a fantastic medium, and this really allows us to stay in touch. Most of us will have used this for keeping in touch with friends and family around the world. But in these very difficult times of “Lockdown” and restricted movements the voice/video option will be wonderful here at home.

Living far away from my own family (18 miles) and being unable to travel, I am finding Voice/video absolutely essential to keep up with my daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren. We schedule a call after tea (dinner) each evening, It really does bring everyone closer….. I do the same with my friends and family around the world. I can also keep in contact with my neighbours to make sure they are safe, and if they need help and assistance I am here to give it over the phone/video.

I wanted to blog about communication as it really is so important at this time, so please make sure you stay in touch, love your neighbour, love you family, stay safe, stay healthy, and support each other. Why not schedule regular catch-up calls?

The Lord Bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace
